The Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8 was a luxury car produced by Isotta Fraschini from 1919 to 1924.
It was the first production car to adopt a straight-eight engine. As the time went by, the Tipo 8 became synonym with elegance.
It was worth 150.000 lire (75.000 euro approximately) and was very much appreciated in the United States. The launch of this car allowed the Isotta Fraschini’s manufacturer to be recognized as one of the most well-known luxury car firms.

The engine displacement was 5.901 cm³, the cylinder bore was 85 mm and the stroke 130 mm. The first models provided between 75 and 80 horsepower as well as 2200 revolutions per minute which granted a speed of 125 km/h. The process of the engine setting was carried out by three flappy paddles, one for the ignition timing, one for the flow of the air/fuel mixture intake and one for the throttle’s position. Afterwards the horsepower increased up to 90 and the top speed reached almost 140 km/h.

At the beginning, the transmission was made of a three-speed manual shift plus the reverse, as well as a multiple plate clutch. Then a four-speed manual shift was adopted.
The vehicle is equipped with brakes on every wheel which can be activated both manually or with the paddle.
The vehicle has a dependent suspension design with semi-elliptical springs and rear hydraulic shock absorbers.

The vehicle frame proposed here was delivered to Australia in 1923 by Milano’s manufacturer and only then was the vehicle serviced in Torpedo.
The vehicle, due to historic importance, was part of George Gilltrap Auto Museum.
Restored from 1981 and 1987  by Vintage Car Co., Southport, Australia, the vehicle was purchased by a German car collector at the end of the 80’s. In Dortmund, the car passed Dekra’s tests and obtained the permission to travel on the road.

In 1998 the vehicle was purchased by an English collector who obtained the FIVA’s card and consequently the vehicle has participated to several cars’ rallies such as the Rallye de Champagne in France. When the English collector died in 2004, his family sold the car to the current Italian owner.
The Isotta Fraschini chassis number 367 has been awarded with the Targa Oro by ASI commission.
The present owner has participated to many rallies in Italy as for example the Transappeninica, and the Superba.
The vehicle is characterized by the rear part, finished off by an amazing beige leather whereas the front part has a creamy metal sheet.
The internal parts of the car have a brown color.
